Phuket,
Thailand, 12 April 2001
- Banyan Tree Phuket, owned by Singapore-based
Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, has once again
received international acclaim, this time, in
the first-ever Zagat Survey 2001 Top International
Hotels, Resorts and Spas. Based on Zagat's 30-point
scale, Banyan Tree Phuket scored a near-perfect
29 points for its spa treatments and facilities
under the "International Spas" category
and an overall score of 28 points, making it to
the "Top 20 Spas in the World" category.
It further achieved an extraordinary overall score
of 27 points, earning a "Top 50 Resorts"
listing as well as the "Best Resorts in Asia"
listing. A score between 26 and 30 denotes an
extraordinary to perfection rating.
The Zagat Survey is considered the world's premier
provider of consumer survey-based dining, accommodation
and leisure information. The Survey reviews 1,735
hotels, resorts, spas and chains and elects 875
favorites as the "best in the world".
Created from the shared experiences of nearly
12,000 surveyors who stayed at hotels upward of
30 nights per year, the Survey is based on approximately
365,000 nights at hotels per year. This is equivalent
to 1,000 visits per night. All voters -- including
amateurs, experts and professionals -- can be
credited as the Survey's real authors.
Zagat also has the support of The American Society
of Travel Agents who helped to gain the participation
of nearly 400 travel professionals in this Survey.
The Society's expert in-depth knowledge and experience
lends credibility to the Survey.
Here are some noteworthy quotes from voters featured
in Zagat Survey 2001 - Top International Hotels,
Resorts & Spas --
"This is why you need real money": villas
"like little Thai palaces" overlooking
saltwater lagoons come with "breathtaking
gardens", private pools and open-air baths/showers
at this "tranquil" resort near the beach;
a "host(ess) at your beck and call"
will arrange for a "massage for two"
("one of the world's best spas") or
serve an "incredible breakfast" in your
own sala; "plush", "exclusive"
and "gorgeous", it could be "the
most divine place ever"..
"With its skilled staff", "service
outdoors" and "very relaxing treatments"
(like a Royal Thai Honey steam wrap, natural Indonesian
facial and Javanese massage), the spa at this
"ultra-pampering resort" knows how to
"make you feel like you're in paradise";
guests can round out the experience with healthful
"cuisine that's interesting and filling"
and a dip in the "perfectly tranquil pool".
Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts has just won two
coveted Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)
Gold Awards, 2001 for its International Marketing
Program and Corporate Environment Program. Other
major awards include the recent achievement of
the Best Resort Hotel award for Banyan Tree Phuket,
presented by Travel Trade Gazette (TTG) Travel
Awards from 1997 to 2001. The resort also won
Asia's Best Resort Hotel and Asia's Best Health
Spa awards by the recent Asiamoney 2001 Business
Travel Poll. Past victories include the Ecotourism
Award by Condé Nast Traveler 1999, World's
Best Spa Resort by Condé Nast Traveler
1998 and Best Resort Hotel Asia Pacific by The
Asian Wall Street Journal and CNBC Asia 1999.
