Aroma Sense of those Essential Oils!
Can't
tell Sweet Basil from Thyme or Majoram? Not sure
if the essential oil you like is suitable for
your skin? Browse through our list of some commonly
used essential oils here and learn more on the
therapeutic properties of these herbs, spices
and plant oils. This list is by no means exhaustive,
however, we believe it'll help you make aroma
sense of most common essential oils.

Fennel:
|
Usually
used at the end of an Indian meal to aid digestion.
For massage where there is cellulite and for the
digestive system, especially wind. Good for breast
firming massage and to promote milk production.
Caution: Avoid in pregnancy,
not good for epileptics. As Fennel is narcotic
in large doses, use in moderation. DO NOT use
on children below 5 years old.

Frankincense:
|
Soothes,
warms and aids meditation. Comforting oil, slows
breathing and controls tension and helps to focus
the mind. Excellent for toning and caring for
mature/aging skin. Caution:
Avoid during pregnancy and contact with the eyes
and mucous membranes.

|
|
| |
Galangal:
|
A
general stimulant with stress reducing properties.
|
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
Gardenia:
|
A
mood uplifting oil. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
Geranium:
|
A
balancing oil for the mind and body. A fresh,
floral and sweet smelling oil it relaxes, restores
and maintains stability of the emotions. An astringent
oil excellent for all skin types. Useful insect
repellent. For massage where there is cellulite
and treating eczema and psoriasis. Caution:
Avoid during first trimester of pregnancy. Not
for sensitive skin.

Ginger:
|
Fiery
and fortifying. Comforting oil and for massaging
on the muscles. Good for nausea and sickness.
Caution: Slightly phototoxic,
so may cause some people to be more sensitivity
to UV rays.

Grapefruit:

Refreshes
and uplifts the spirit. Aroma can help with nervous
exhaustion. Relieves congested and oily skin,
having a toning effect on both skin and tissues.
For this reason it is a good oil to use when treating
cellulitis. |

Helichrysum |
(Italian
Everlasting or Immortelle): Used as an anti-depressant.
Freshens the air, mind and body. Helps to clear
the mind, chest and sinus and relieves aches,
pains and menstrual discomfort. |

Jasmine
Absolute: |

Emotionally warming. Relaxes, soothes, uplifts
and helps self-confidence. Good for stress and
general anxiety. Perfect skincare oil, excellent
for hot, dry skin. Sensual properties and reputedly

| |
Juniper:
|
Tones
and stimulates. An antiseptic and astringent oil
for bath and massage where there is cellulite.
Restores psychic purity. Has a cleansing effect
on the body, used in many masculine perfumes,
after shaves and colognes, and has a calming effect
on the emotions. Reputed to strengthen the immune
system. |

Lavender:
|
Relaxes,
soothes, restores and balances body and mind.
Calms or stimulates according to your body's needs.
Excellent for refreshing tired muscles, feet and
head. Treats burns and reduces scarring. Caution:
Not for those with low blood pressure or in the
first trimester of pregnancy.

It
cleanses, refreshes, cools and stimulates. Astringent
and antiseptic oil. Useful for oily skin. Can
be used to lighten dull, stained hands or to tone
and condition nails and cuticles. Caution:
May irritate sensitive skin and increase sensitivity
to sunlight.

Lemongrass:
|
Besides
putting the zing into Thai food, this tough and
tangy grass is a refreshing, cleansing and stimulating
tonic on the body. An antiseptic and astringent
oil. Refreshing and deodorising room fragrance.
Caution: Avoid during
pregnancy.

|
|
| |
Lemon
Verbena: |
Mood
uplifting, revitalising and promotes mental clarity
and alertness. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
Lime:
|
As
lemon and the other citrus oils. |

|
|
|
| |
Mandarin:
|
A
gentle and calming oil, good for oily skin. Use
it in massage for the digestive system and, like
lavender, can be used in massage oil to help prevent
stretch marks. |

|
| |
Marjoram,
Spanish & Sweet: |
Soothes, comforts and warms. Useful on tired muscles
and for massaging on abdomen during menstruation.
Used to regulate the nervous system and treat
insomnia. Caution: Not
to be used during pregnancy. Not for young children,
the elderly and those with low blood pressure.

skin and on scars and stretch marks. Also improves
sluggish circulation, relieves tension, stress

Nutmeg:
|
Good
for the digestion and calming. Promote a restful
sleep with dreams. Caution:
Never use if pregnant or lactating. Not suitable
for the elderly, teens or children. Can be toxic
in high doses, so use in small amounts.
