BANYAN TREE SPA CAFÉ
In Sanskrit, Ayu means "Life" and Veda means "knowledge or science." Known as the Science of Life, Ayurveda is a traditional healing system which originated in India approximately 5,000 years ago. Based on the belief that life is made up of five primal elements - air, space, water, fire and earth, these elements form the building blocks of Ayurvedic healing, the tri-dosha. It treats each individual by working holistically, combining nutrition, herbal remedies, exercises such as yoga and massages to achieve health and harmony.
Steeped in Asian healing traditions and a holistic focus on spiritual, mental and physical harmony, Banyan Tree Spa embraces the benefits of Ayurvedic traditions and heightens the wellness quotient with this innovative dining experience.
The Tri-Dosha Types

The functions of each individual’s tri-dosha contribute to the overall dynamic state of the body, mind and soul. Vata [In Sanskrit: ‘to move' or 'to enthuse'] - Vata people have alert minds, a refreshing imagination with fun personality and a lot of energy, but could burn out quickly through being overly active. Generally tall or short with thin frames, their appetite and digestion are variable and their hands and feet are often cold.
Body constitution: Usually balanced by sweet, sour and salty tastes. Soft tender food with moderate spices and oil which are freshly cooked complements the Vata diet.
Pitta [In Sanskrit: 'to shine'] – Pitta people are skilful and bright with good concentration power. Assertive and self-confident, they are competitive but may be opinionated. Generally slender and of medium height, they have good metabolism, digestion and appetite.
Body constitution: Usually balanced by sweet, bitter and astringent tastes. Dry, cooling and mild food which are naturally sweet, bitter and not too spicy, sour or salty are ideal for the Pitta type.
Kapha [In Sanskrit: 'to keep together'] – Kapha people are calm, relaxed and not easily provoked. Affectionate and loving, they have outstanding long-term memory and speak slowly, reflecting a deliberate thought process. Strong with a sturdy heavier build, they tend to consume less food and have regular appetite.
Body constitution: Usually balanced by bitter, piquant and astringent tastes. Light dry food in moderate portions which are not too sweet and oily suits the Kapha diet.
